ABOUT US UsHa

Since 1985 piano's have played a significant part in the direction that I have taken myself throughout my career. It started off in the wholesale meat industry where i worked for my father ready to take the reigns in partnership with my twin brother. Sadly the business went under and we were forced to go it alone.

After about 5 years with my brother, In 1985 I decided to break off from the meat trade (which was a family trait) and moved to Newark on trent where I could exploit my interest in piano's by taking up the piano tuning and repairs course at Newark College. After 3 years of rigourous training I passed all my exams both practical and theoretical ready to take on what work I could find in my exciting new venture. I was a proud of my achievement, having mastered what I felt to be one of the hardest skills there are (tuning a piano).

Piano tuning always intrigued me when ever my piano tuner came . I'd read a book which refered to the sound differentials that one listens to when attempting to tune a string. The word "beats" was used to descibe this. beats to me would mean something like "pulses" similar to that you can sometimes have in your ear when you've got an infection. College tought me that this was not right. The word I would have used to descibe that differential is "WOW". When two strings are out of sinch with eachother the wow sound is heard in a recurring mode like wow..wow..wow.......... faster as the difference in frequency increases, slower when it decreases. With a lever on the pin of one string and the other string left alone to vibrate at the same time the tension of that string can be adjusted to alter it's frequency and bring them together to vibrate equally. When this is achieved the "WOW"..... factor is totally eliminated and the sound is smooth as if only one string is being played. This effect is called "UNISON" (vibrating equally).

Here I am 25 years later with a new invention of my own that I  would like to share with you. It is a "PAGE GRIP" designed to eliminate damaging your music when needing to turn the page. You can view a demonstration of page grip in use on the home page.

How Page Grip evolved

In January 2010 I decided that i was fedup with constantly ruining my sheet music by bending and creasing pages just so i could turn the page. As I rested that evening It came to me that something like a paper clip sticking out would do it. Nipped to the garage to my hammer and vice. I bent a short section at the end to make it protrude forward rather than out to the side. Brought it back to test it and it worked brilliantly (see first one made)

After a couple of days I realised that if it could work for me then it could work for others. I took it to one of these invention anylists to see if anything could be done with it. He was very enthusiastic and wanted to proceed on agreement to a 48% share. Another anylist company wanted £2000 to start making a prototype and plan etc to make it a marketable product. I may have been wrong but I declined both. Still enthusiastic I decided that the next step would be to find a manufacturer, either to make and market it or just make for me to market myself.

It is pretty well known that china is the place for a product like paperclips. After searching the web (not sure how long) I stumbled across the HKTC Hong kong trading centre where I placed a small internal web page to convey to any suitable manufacturers what I was looking for. Within a couple of weeks I received a response from Mann Chow of Emanuel Enterprise who said he would be able to make it for me. Soughted the design between us and agreed a price and hey presto Page Grip was born and ready to be marketed. See photo of finished product now on sale.

The name score-pian was thought of by a possible design being a hook shape. My immediate comparison was to say "like the tale of a scorpian". In a flash, thinking of music "score" and that the remaining letters were "pian" as in 80% of the word piano, put it together and there you have it "Scorepian" hiphonated to give two indepnedent meanings "SCORE" = music score "PIAN = piano abbreviated. And that's it. More biographics as Score-pian progresses. "By the way You dont need to steel my invention, if you feel that you can market score-pian at an ageed profit rate, dont hesitate to get in touch.
